Grassroots Lobby Day for Eviction Record Sealing (H.4270)
Join SC Tenant Union and tenant leaders from across South Carolina for a powerful day at the State House demanding action on Eviction Record Sealing (H.4270).
This Grassroots Lobby Day will bring tenants, caregivers, workers, elders, and families together to meet directly with lawmakers, share our stories, and press for a subcommittee hearing on H.4270. Participants will receive support, talking points, and advocacy materials, take part in coordinated lobbying throughout the day, and engage in visibility actions to make tenant voices impossible to ignore.
Whether it’s your first time at the State House or your fiftieth, you’ll have community, preparation, and a role to play.
SC Tenant Union is providing transportation supports and gas stipends to help tenants get to the Statehouse and talk to their legislators. Breakfast and lunch will be provided!
Our presence is pressure. Our stories are strategy. Our collective power moves policy.
What to Expect
Participants will gather near the State House to connect, receive advocacy packets, and get grounded in shared goals and strategy. There will be opportunities to engage lawmakers in both informal and direct ways, including conversations that allow tenants to introduce themselves, share brief personal stories, and build relationships ahead of legislative asks.
Throughout the day, we will move through the State House in coordinated teams to meet with legislators, deliver letters and fact sheets, and press for a subcommittee hearing on H.4270. Space will also be made for collective reflection, care, and amplifying our efforts with a press conference.
The day will close with a collective moment to name wins, outline next steps, and plan for continued organizing- followed by an optional Happy Hour to decompress, celebrate, and strengthen relationships among tenant leaders and allies.
